Digital BW, The Print

Folks,

I just bought the scanner & have PS 6 with the included Silverfast 5SE plug-in on a PC.

I called Silverfast & they said that the version I have is a "light' version & that to upgrade to the Ai with the color targets would be the SAME as if I did not have the current product.  The fee is $204.

My question is that $204 is 45 1/3 Guinesses (current exchange rate in Chicago) and so I don't want to buy something that I don't need.  I'd like to calibrate my system & know that I can get a calibrated target from Wolf Faust for $15, so that is an easy way to get that.

Not sure this is the place to ask, but should I get the Ai upgrade?  I'm only planning to do max 8by10 mostly B&W, but I have another printer to do color for wifey's shots of the grandkids.

Silverfast Ai 5.5 with negafix is fantastic software.  I use it on 
both a Polaroid Sprintscan 120 and Epson 1600. It's great if you want 
to scan film, for both B&W and color. But I do professional work so I 
use it alot. If you're just doing hobby stuff, you can certainly get 
by without it. Plus,if you're not scanning negs, the SE version will 
probably be all you need. Most of your correction work is best done 
in PS 6.0 anyway.
