Epson 1400 Error Message

Epson 1400 Error Message

2014-01-13 by <homershannon@...>

My roughly three year old 1400, which is working perfectly, is giving me an error message, "Parts within your printer have exceeded their normal life expectancy." (Or something like that, I'm not a the printer right now.) But, the printer goes ahead and prints whatever I'm printing without issues.

This is not the same as the waste tank errors, which required a reset before the machine would continue to print. I have a 1400 workshop manual and this message is not mentioned. Does anyone know what this is referring to and is it significant that I should chase it down?

Hi Homer..

Mine stopped printing altogether after making a few prints “beyond” the waste tank warning message..I did the re-set once that happened, and things have been going well since..That was about 6 months ago....I guess I’m saying it “needs to quit” soon following the message.( from MY experience at least)..Let me know how it goes..

I agree with Eddie... I had a similar experience with my R1800. The first message is kind of a warning, I think it said something like "parts are nearing the end of their life." The key word is "nearing". The printer will continue to function until the second message, where it might say something like "at the end of their life" and the printer stops... with the paper button and the on/off button flashing alternatively.

That's the best of my recollection - which I don't state with a 100% guarantee of accuracy!

Regards,

Paul

PS: In fact, if you try to run the reset utility after the first warning, it won't let you perform the reset. Again, that's my recollection.

Paul and Homer..

The EXACT same scenario happened to me on 2 different 1400’s..It says it’s going to “die”, and it does…...Once it’s “a gonner”, I was able to do the resets in each case, just like nothing has happened!.

I’ve been procrastinating on installing external ink tanks for both printers..I believe it’s pretty cheap, and not exactly rocket science to accomplish..Really not a bad idea at all..

May I submit an unsolicited plug for this company: http://www.octoink.co.uk/ I have no connection with this company other than being a very satisfied user.

The product does what it says it will do, the instructions are clear, the owner is very helpful and shows personal attention to questions, and the prices are reasonable.
