Some thoughts before buying that large format printer?

After several years of using/testing/reviewing large format printers, mainly as a photographer printing my own work, I often get asked about the various deals and the like that appear, and whether they are worthwhile?
I've put together a collection of questions/thoughts that I feel you need to address if you're moving to 'Large Format', especially if your previous idea of a big print was A3+. Probably not things that would make it into printer marketing literature ;-)
I love being able to produce large prints of my work, but I know that as a relatively low volume printer, there are costs of running such kit.
