Black and White Calibration

Black and White Calibration

2014-03-29 by <homershannon@...>

Where can I get a pre-printed, high quality, 21-step grayscale for scanner calibration purposes? I have a Q-13 and a MacBeth chart, but neither of these gives me confidence that I am doing my calibration step correctly when using the QTR Stepwedge Tool script.

I've looked all over the web and don't see this item listed anywhere.

Stouffer Graphic Arts made the 21 step wedge I've had for a long time. I'm pleased to see they're still in business.

I'm surprised the Q-13 is not good enough. I';ve used my Kodak version with reasonable success. (Maybe get a couple from different high volume seller so that they have not been on the shelf for years.)

You can purchase a 21 reflection Steptablet (or film transmission Steptablet ) from Stouffer Industries.

I have the Q-13 step by Kodak, but it only has 20 steps. When trying to linearize my QTrip curve, it requires entering values in 21 boxes... it was a little tricky trying to get a reading from 20 steps to fit into 21 boxes, even with interpolation. Does the Stouffer contain a full 21 steps? It was hard to tell from looking at the graphic on their website.
