Epson 1400 leaky printhead

Epson 1400 leaky printhead

2014-06-23 by yoursnaps@...

Hi,

I recently bought a used Epson 1400 on ebay for some B&W printing using EB6 inks. Unfortunately the inks simply leak out through the print head. Anybody come across this. I suspect a faulty print head but then I am told it could be due to inappropriate viscosity of the inks! Just thought I will ask before I throw out the printer:(

Does on happen on my R1800.

Gosh, what bum news. Can you file a claim with Ebay? Such problems with items bought on Ebay are becoming increasingly common. The company has responded with their guarantee that merchandise purchased should be as advertised. Follow up with Ebay and get a refund!

That's not normal. Be sure you have not removed the reservoir plug. There are 2 holes in the top of the carts. One if for air to come in, the other for re-filling. On the MIS pre-filled carts I last saw, the refill hole was plugged by a rubber stopper that was flush with the top of the cart. So, removing this by accident is not likely.

It's probably the head.

If the viscosity was way too low, that might also do it, but that would only be in the case of a mixing mistake, not the standard Eb6 formula, which has been used for years in 1400's with far fewer problems than most other inksets.

Thank you Paul.
I am convinced it is the printer head so this one will have to go. It is rather difficult to get 1400s in UK in any decent condition. So I may have to opt for other options - 1800/2100/2400 and adapt it for EB6 printing. I guess transferring curves (copy and Paste) to appropriate inks positions on the new printer to start of with will be OK. Then tweak for best grey steps.

I am also trying OCP BPK111 inks but as 3 x full BO printing as I would not know how to dilute them for 6X inks printing. This ink gives more neutral prints (best on Innova FibaPrint White Matt and Harman Matt FB Warmtone gives beautiful creamy whites) but then these inks are a blend of other pigments with carbon as the main pigment. They have just recommended their BPK200/1/2/3 for ABW type printing. Will try that out at some stage.

I am new to this group so hope to share some info.

Hi,
Does anyone know if QTR will recognise Epson 1500W as Artisan 1430? 1500W is UK version of Artisan 1430 in US.
If it works then it may make life easier for using Eboni 6 set. 1500 W is also available as new.

I don't believe QTR "recognizes" the printer, it just puts the output corrected for the selection you make. If am correct in this, your 1500 should be fine with QTR set for 1400.

While I was at my home computer, I opened QTR to check how it selects your printer type. It appears that it displays all the printers you have drivers for, then you select from them. You will probably have to load 1400 drivers into your system as well as the 1500 drivers (if they are actually different) then select 1400 in QTR and 1500 in your actual printer settings.
