Using a flat-bed scanner to measure the ink densities and linearize a curve in QTR

Using a flat-bed scanner to measure the ink densities and linearize a curve in QTR

2014-12-04 by paulmwhiting@...

With extensive help from a frequenter of this and other related Yahoo! groups, I've shortened our lengthy e-mail exchange to come up with an affordable method of measuring ink densities for the last step of linearizing a curve in QTR. Here's the Dropbox link to the document:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/tw68s4q0dha3ild/QTR%20curve%20making.pdf?dl=0

I decided to use Dropbox instead of our Files section here because it seemed I had more control to work the link into a new or existing thread. A member of our cousin site QuadToneRIP is working on a manual for QTR and earlier I posted this link there. You may want to check out that thread, it's named New User Guide.

This is my first attempt to use Dropbox so please tell me if this doesn't work for you. You don't need Dropbox installed on your computer if I've done this correctly.

Enjoy the journey, as Paul R. would say!

Paul,

How does your procedure compare to the QTR StepWedge tool?

Thanks,

Paul

Paul,

I wish I could answer that, but I believe StepWedge is a script, and Elements (at least ver. 9) doesn't handle scripts. I actually downloaded Stepwedge and was hopeful until I ran across that issue. So I never installed it and thus can't compare it with this approach. Seems to me I ran across a plug-in for Elements that does handle scripts but I was already well along in this process.

I'm trying to make b/w printing simple and affordable ... but I must confess sometimes that quest may appear more complicated!

Regards,

Paul

OK, I think that answers the question. If people have Elements and not Photoshop, then QTR StepWedge is not available and your system should be used.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
