"Paper size check" off, top margin control, Epson 7800

This may be the wrong forum for this, but I'll give it a try here anyway.
On the 7800, when I turn the "Paper Size Check" off via the control panel (Menu>Printer Setup>Paper size check on/off), the printer feeds the paper in to the point where there is a 3.5 inch margin at the top. The control panel does not allow back-feeding the paper to adjust for this.
Is that any way to reduce the 3.5" margin, ideally to more like 1/4 inch?
