Cutting Down Roll Paper?

Cutting Down Roll Paper?

2015-08-31 by jon.witsell@...

Hi,

My 24" printer has finally died and I'm about to receive a 17" P800. I have a few boxes of 24" Platine that I'd like to cut down to 17".

Has anyone done this? Any sources I can take a look at? Suggestions?

Sorry for not doing a thorough search first... Had a bad wind storm in Seattle the other day and a tree took out the connection to my cable modem—so I'm at a friend's house using their limited hotspot.

Thanks for any help!

I use the 12 inch miter saw, and the metal cutting blade which I use to cut frame sections. I first wrap a piece of masking tape around where the cut is to be made, mark it, set the saw to 90 degrees and cut. I get an edge as clean or cleaner then the factory cuts.

I didn't think the 3880 could use roll paper. Tell me about it. I was considering one but gave up on the idea because of the roll paper issue.

You can't use a roll in a 3880, but you can use sheets cut from a roll. You feed them via the rear sheet feeder. If you want to print longer than 37.4 " / 950mm then you'll need to use a RIP to print, such as QTR for B&W. But plenty of people are doing it.

Hi Ben,

Sorry, got my numbers confused—it was a 4900.

Ok, thanks for that. A friend has a metal cutting chop saw so we'll give it a test or two and see how it works.

Thanks!
