I've used a Pentel Hybrid Technica .8mm which has "acid free, water resistant, archival ink". Bought it at the local Michael's. Stabilo makes a super soft pencil that can write on a glossy photo. Epson hot press natural takes any pencil very well.

Gents: You guys are talking about Exhibition Fiber, right? I already know about archival, India ink pens. The problem is that the paper's surface won't grab them.

That’s exactly why I don’t print on it. I suggest getting a few swatch books and try writing on them, then pick one from the lot that works. I use a General's Layout pencil, it seems to write on any matte surface, for signing prints. http://www.generalpencil.com/generalsreg-layoutreg.html For glossy/lustre/baryta paper I use a Staedtler Pigment Liner, 0.7: https://www.staedtler.com/en/products/ink-writing-instruments/fineliners/pigment-liner-308-fineliner/ Hope this helps! In my case, I had to find something that would take any pencil since I have artists who want to draw on the prints I make for them and they want to use the pencils they're used to using.

Thanks, yes that’s it. It’s a good one to keep around. We retouched large format films for darkroom printing with these years ago.
