Yes I get the same results. I have taken to putting a few drops of "swimmers ear" on the parking / cleaning pad, then doing a cleaning -- usually this takes care of the problem right away. Swimmer's ear is usually available at a good size drug store or some times a sporting goods shop. I think it is alcohol based but it helps me.

Wow, now that is some lateral thinking Don. "Swimmers ear" for a head
clog... Maybe I'll try Nyquil and park the head for an overnight rest? ;-)

Don,

What are you thinking the fuzzies are caused by?

Todd,

If you're going to attempt using Nyquill on the parking pad, I
strongly urge you to buy the "Cough Suppresent" variety, as I have
found this version to minimise ink blotting.

(disclaimer:don't try this at home<g>)

I don't know what the fuzzies are caused by -- most of my problems seem to be clogged nozzles (missing ink when doing a head check). I noticed this when I changed out MIS cartridges. (I use preloaded carts) I thought that maybe air was now caught up in the head and one of two things was happening---- air bubbles or air dried out the base solution of the ink and I now have dried ink in the heads. Windex worked some what but it seemed to have to sit for awhile before I could use the printer with good results. So I (my son had been swimming and his ear was blocked up -- as I gave him the swimmer ear it hit me that maybe it would work on the printer ) tried it and it worked. I think maybe the alcohol in it reduced the surface tension of the air bubble or so other ingredient in the solution helped out.... As I am not a scientist but a "try and see" type of person -- I tried it and it worked for me.
Any other thoughts Austin ????

Hi Don,

I found the fuzzies on my printers were caused by the paper! I use HWM, and
found that after a hundred or so prints, the paper dust ended up all stuck
to the bottom of the nozzles. Cleaning cycles didn't remove them...and I
had to resort to a sticky sheet for preventative maintenance and a Windex
soaking (in the capping pad) to soften them up then a few cleaning cycles,
which would wipe the things off. If your wiping arm (sounds funny, I know
;-) isn't doing a good job, because it's off, then that could be a reason
cleaning cycles won't work for you. Sometimes the capping pads also get
knocked off, and won't seal the heads when parked!

Regards,

Austin

  Never thought about that

had to resort to a sticky sheet
Things I will look at and try for sure.

It does seem to me that my trouble started after changing out carts --- maybe coincidence

The pad seems to be intact -- maybe I need a new pad -- does Epson sell these -- has anyone actually changed out a pad ?????

  Thanks
  Don

Hi Don,

I would doubt that you need a new pad, but it is possible... I'm sorry I
haven't read everything you wrote on it, I was a bit busy with other
"affairs" at the time...but what is the symptom? Do you quite frequently
get clogs, as in mostly every day or two?

Austin

Thanks for your input -- I didn't mean for you to take on fixing my problem but I appreciate your help. If I don't print for a couple of days the printer clogs (ink missing on head check). This is my second set of carts. The first set worked perfectly -- never any problems at all. Actually it worked so well I just could not see or understand how everybody was getting clogs etc. then I put in the new carts (second set) then the clogging started. When I use the swimmers ear all is well and stays ok for a few days (a few longer than when I use Windex). But eventually I get the clog again. The printer is an Epson 880 (4 color unit 8.5 x 11). This is only the second set of carts in the unit -- i started using this Epson with B&W inkset
Thanks

Hi Don,

No problem. That very well could be your ink capping pad isn't positioned
correctly. Are these inks the same inks as the first inks?

If the inks are the same, I'd wait and see if it happens with the third set
of inks... Do you turn your printer off at night? The new Epson printers
(I can't tell you how new...and I don't know how old the 880 is) park the
head without turning the printer off, but the older ones didn't.

Austin

Hi Austin
I'll look at the pad position tonight when I get home.
And yes the inks are the exact same as the first set I used.
I turn the printer off when not in use..... The printer does "park" the head even when turned on.
Thanks
Don
