Ansel Adams on PBS According to the April 2002 Country Living Magazine In celebration of the 100th anniversary of his birth, Ansel Adams, the photographer of the American West (particularly Yosemite National Park), will be the subject of PBS's American Experience on Apr 21 at 9:00 p.m. EST, (check listings). Growing up in San Francisco, Adams would hike the area around the Golden Gate, where his love of nature blossomed. At age 14, he first encountered Yosemite. That aweinspiring experience laid the foundation for his life as a photographer, conservationist, and wilderness activist. "From that day, my life has been colored and modulated by the great earth-gesture of the Sierra," he wrote in Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada (Bulfinch Press; 1994). The PBS documentary was written and directed by Ric Burns. For details on the program, visit www.pbs.org - For a virtual exhibit of Adams's work, access the site of: www.adamsgallery.com
