Tyler's VM curves for 1280

Tyler's VM curves for 1280

2002-03-29 by jimhayes361

I haven't found any comments in the posts on this. I downloaded the
zip file. Any comments on how these seven curves print on a pc, maybe
how you would rank the seven from warm to cold by name? Perhaps how
they might compare to Paul's latest curves? Also, does one run sRGB or
Adobe RGB as default? I'm talking about the standard old VM inkset
here, not the sepia, etc. I use Eclipse Satine a lot, I'm expecting it
would be not much of a curve tweak from photo rag. Before I go
printing up test images/ wedges, might be wise to get some thoughts.
TIA,
Jim H.

Tyler's VM curves for 1280

Jim,

Martin mentioned these curves back on 3/12 and there were a couple of
follow-up posts.

My experience with the VM inks until a few weeks ago was limited to antique
photo restoration. But a few weeks ago I began experimenting with BW
photography. I started with Paul's curves and was working on Photo Rag, ESFA
and Museo.

I downloaded Tyler's curves a couple of weeks ago after Martin mentioned
them and have been experimenting, mostly on Photo Rag and to a lesser degree
ESFA. I have some Museo, but haven't tried them with that paper yet.

Since I've never used EAM I probably wasn't getting optimal results with
Paul's curves on the Photo Rag or ESFA, but I was still pleased. However,
Tyler's crv08 curve gives me the best prints I've produced to date, using
these inks and Paul's workflow on Photo Rag. I think it's phenomenal. ESFA
isn't too far behind.

I experimented briefly with the warm02 curve and it looked good as well, but
the cld01 was hopelessly posterized.

Hope this helps...

Okay, thanks. I did a search but didn't guess the right keywords I
imagine<g>. I'll go back and look.

To clarify: Paul's workflow would call for "photo paper" to be
selected and sRGB as color space. Tyler calls for "matte
paper-heavyweight". Which do you use? Also, by crv08 being great, how
do you weight that? i.e. tone is better, density steps more even,
whatever. And how warm is it wrt Paul's four curves?

Apologies for the questions. Trying to get as much understood before I
lanch off on a new set of curves to experiment with.

 I think it's
phenomenal. ESFA

Yes, it does. Thank you.

Help, where do i find tylers curves for sepia?

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
