Profiing 1280/ink/paper combinations

Profiing 1280/ink/paper combinations

2002-03-29 by Stephen Petegorsky

John - I'm in the early stages of working with the software from
Colorvision (ProfilerPlus) to make profiles for using my Epson 1280 with
the Epson inks on PhotoRag paper. I don't know if this is what you're
looking for, but: You use the Colorvision Spyder to calibrate your
monitor, you make a print of a supplied color chart with the
ink/printer/paper combination you plan to use (according to their
instructions, which essentially have you turn any printer color
management off), you use a flatbed scanner to make a scan (again,
according to their instructions), and then you open the scan of the
printed chart. At that point you use their software from within
Photoshop to create a profile based on that scan and then make a test
print of an image. After examining the test print you can adjust the
profile, essentially by making a new one of the same scan you used for
the first one, but with some slider adjustments.

My first attempts were frustrating, but after calling them and changing
the gamma setting on my scanner for the scan of the print of the chart,
it went well. I still have some questions for them about tweaking the
profile, but it got me started. Let me know if I can answer any
questions you may have about this.

Best,
