Tom, I've seen the same print printed on an 1160 and 1280 through the Cone
driver and I couldn't tell the difference.

Tom,

The Hex Piezo Inks and the MIS FS inks only use 4 colors. Cyan/PhotoCyan are
the same as well as Magenta/PhotoMagenta are the same.

Re: [Digital BW] Piezo and hex FS

2002-04-03 by tomoc

Basically, it sounds to me that there is no advantage what soever in
converting the 1270 to BW...I guess there might be some reason to
want to at least try piezo on a 1280 using "best" setting, but I
think I've seen posts that there wasn't much difference in going to
2880 dip.

Well... Back to the drawing board for me... I have 2 1160s and a
1270...only a cis on one 1160 (using FSN). I think I'll put a cis on
the other 1160 (for FS) and use the 1270 to for Lyson Small Gamut...
Hmmmmm... I think that means I'll need a 1280 for color.

Any better ideas for this set of printers?

Mike, are the inksets you are using w/ the Imageprint Rip only 4 inks?
Seems like a waste.

Bill,

Yes, all of the Cone and MIS FS ink sets are quadtone inksets. there
is no reason to use 6 shades as smooth continuous tone prints can be
made quite successfully with the 4 shades.

The original MIS quads use 6 tones for the 6 color printers. I
believe some time back Paul went ahead and posted the reasoning for
this. You might search the archive from early to mid last year.

I am not sure if the Lyson ink set is qud or hex, but I would assume
that they are 4 tones.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
