Barry, you won't get blacks like that with any matte paper, except
possibly if you varnish the prints. But you *can* get a look *very much*
like those prints with a microporous RC coated paper and pigment inks.

With my ink set, based on Generations inks, I measure Dmax at 1.75 with
my favorite matte papers, including Photo Rag and Wm. Turner. But I
measure Dmax > 2.5 with Generations ProPhoto Lustre (or Lyson
Professional Photo Satin, which I think is the same stuff for more
money).

Does this matter? You bet. The difference in shadow detail has to be
seen to be appreciated. The lustre prints aren't just better, they're a
LOT better. But they're fragile, and feel like plastic, until they're
framed and behind glass.

The Hahnemuhle papers give a decent black.. Try Torchon (Royal Riviera
at media street), or Photo Rag.

Just my Brit sense of humour! On the way back the paramedics were
attending to someone who had a fall! Still to walk in Ansel Adams
footsteps made it all worth it. In a couple of days I did get a
couple of nice pics. If anyone else is going to make the "stroll"
take plenty of water and a means of keeping your camera dry as you
pass the Falls.
