Yes, Mike, I have noticed exactly the same thing. Which is too bad,
because I really like Museo.

It also mottles with the MIS VM inks. Does it look good with any ink?

I at one point thought there were differences among the printers in how it
turned out. My 3000 seems worse than the 1160, for example.

Interesting! I've been getting a bit of grittiness or mottling at
about that point with my experimental VM set on Brightcube Eclipse
and Somerset VE. Is it overload, do you think? Odly enough, the
cheaper Epson Watercolor handles it beautifuly-what do we know about
this paper other than the weight being too light, is it worth
putting ink on?

Steve,

I found that Bright Cube Eclipse Satine mottles with Piezo inks but never
with MIS inks. I don't believe that it is overload as I am running a custon
profile with my RIP made for Museo. It might be the way the coating accepts
the MIS inks.

I don't have any problem with PiezoBW, MIS Perpetual and Indelible inks.
Epson 1270 inks were also nice. Using 1160 annd 1270 printers.

Its my understanding that Cone was having problems at one point...but I
don't know which printer.

I don't have mottling, but my dancer image is really gritty and course. I
get the best results with the eam profile.
Maybe i should try backing off on the dot gain.

Re: [Digital BW] Re: Museo Mottling

It probably isn't overload in Eclipse...that paper is made for 12 color
printing. It has an extremely high ink load...that's why it doesn't work
with any of the Piezo profiles for other papers.

What's the gray scale range that people are having problems with?...I'll
check it out thoroughly on my printers.

Sorry...I'm not a "real" photographer so Zone V or Zone VI doesn't mean
anything to me other than I should know what it is...and if I knew what it
was I would probably have better negatives...but now the D1x gives me an
instant histogram...so I'm afraid that I'm not destined to learn the zone
system...alas.

Robert,

Made me smile. We have gone from zones to histograms. Perhaps we can rename
them histozones.

Anyway, based upon comaprison to a 21 step tablet, I would say we are
speaking about the 25 to 55% patches.

Thank you Dr. Kravit. I have to go make a house call up in San
Francisco...but I'll put Museo on the examining table with both Piezo and
thee MIS FSN inks when I return.

Re: [Digital BW] Re: Museo Mottling

2002-04-14 by Robert Morrison

I see the mottling with both Piezo inks and MIS=FSN on Museo 365g...but it
goes away on my prints once the inks have dried for about 2 hours. I get
very similar mottling...actually worse on Concord Rag. Doesn't seem to
matter whether you use the Piezo or the Epson driver.
