clog with CIS and MIS VM on black cart

After not having used the printer (1160 with MIS variable mixed tones) for a while - not too long - I noticed that while the colors were good after one cleaning cycle, the black one is 100% clogged. The paper stays litterally white. What would you others out there suggest? Put in cleaning cartridges? (I´d have to put back the parts you have to take out to install the CIS) but then is it possible to use the same CIS after this? Or put some cleaning fluid on the the place where the printhead settles when switched out?
