Digital BW, The Print

I have a new 1280 printer which I outfitted with MIS VM ink cartridges 
instead of the Epson supplied cartridges. I need to do color printing 
occasionaly, and until I can get a dedicated color only printer, can I 
swap these cartridges back and forth with the Epson cartridges?. 

Do I need to store the partially emptied cartridges in a particular way 
to prevent ink from drying between changes? 

What kind of steps should I take to prevent residual inks from 
contaminating the first prints after the change. 

Also, will the swapping cause any false "cartridges empty" dialog with 
my Epson driver software?

In general this is not an issue, or difficult to do. But, keep the 
following in mind

The Epson cartridges were designed to be taken out and stored for 
future use - they have poppet valves at the exit holes whick 
minimizes introduction of air when removed from the printer. The MIS 
VM cartridges do not have that feature. So, it is better to exhaust 
the VM cartridges before removing them.

I have found printing just 1 purge page is sufficient to remove the 
old ink.

It is better to have two dedicated printers.
