Generations ProPhoto Lustre 10 mil
2002-05-01 by Robert Morrison
I tested yet another luster paper yesterday with very interesting results. Media Street's Generations ProPhoto Lustre 10 mil, gives the least rub off of any paper in this class that I've seen (haven't tried the Illford that Antonis wrote about). At 24 hours the surface changes if you touch it, but the 100% black doesn't appreciably rub off. Other interesting things about this paper is that it has a really high ink load. The best piezo profile that I found was "Orwell"...German Etching. This is very interesting because many of you using alternative work flows (e.g., Paul's or Jeff's) could problably use the curves that you have done for EAM without much adjustment (will try that later). The 24hr dmax is only 1.77, but two light coats of Krylon bring it to 2.18...comparably to the other papers that I've tried, regardless of their starting dmax. This paper takes the least Krylon of the lusters that I have tried to get that...good enough to eat gloss. The paper still retains a slight pebble after spraying. If you are going to a silver print look...you should try this paper and workflow. I'm going to try to get some of the Illford Pearl tomorrow and then will give my comparisons across the best of the Luster papers. Robert Generations ProPhoto Lustre 10 mil is the ultimate in true, resin coated (RC), Photographic Inkjet Paper. It features a gorgeous satin/pebbled finish to produce rich, vibrant, heavyweight photographic prints. The weight and look of expensive photographic paper makes this product an excellent platform upon which to display high-resolution color output. The thicker stock permits heavier ink laydowns and providers greater durability. A unique coating delivers radip drying (with dye based ink and Epson Pigmented Ink, and soon to be announced Generations ProPhoto Inkjet Ink), along with superior water resistance. ---------------------- Robert Morrison rmorrison@... 310-397-2704 4131 Bledsoe Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90066
