Re: [Digital BW] 1680 and AN glass

Julian,
This is my preferred method of scanning with the
1680 and 4x5 negs. I place the negs emulsion down
on the scanner glass. AN glass on top pressed
against the negative. I occassionally have Newtons
rings doing this\ufffdI think as a result of static charge.
Clean both the neg and glass with anti-static cloth.
Focus has not been a problem. I use the 0 setting
(not the 2.5mm). I wish the 1680 had variable focus
like the 1640XL.
Be sure to use the correct side of the AN glass too.

Thanks Peter. I'm using Vuescan and the 'manual focus' option defaults to 0
butI'm not sure if this is the 0 position. Ed at Vuescan doesn't know
either. With Silverfast it is a straight analogue with the Epson settings.
Any ideas??

Julian,

Sounds like you're going to have to test it with varying
settings. But does that mean that Vuescan can place
the focus at positions other than 0 and 2.5mm?
