Krylon and other sprays...

Krylon and other sprays...

2002-06-15 by André Vallejo

I'm currently printing with MIS-VM inks on EAM and Brightcube Semi Mate.
Looking to improve longevity,I read Robert Morrison's posting on the Krylon
UV Resistant Clear (#1305),which looks promising. Just that here in
Brazil,in all the shops I look at,I can\ufffdt find this exact Krylon (they only
have the coloured ones, doesn't look like a good idea...). They do have other
brands of protecting transparent sprays, acrilic based,in two kinds: Matte
and Glossy(or brilliant if you wish).
I was wondering if it would be a good idea to use the brilliant one to the
EAM and the matte version to BSM...does it make sense? Any experiences?
Thanks,
Andr\ufffd

Andre,

You can try the "brilliant" spray on the semi mate if it is a glossyish
resin coated finish. Don't bother spraying the EAM.

I use the Eclipse 190 gsm Satine, but I don't use Krylon. I use
Lumijet Imageshield, which is probably sold under other names. It's
made in England according to the can. Cost- about 3x Krylon. It is a
matte finish, and I guess it could lower the Dmax, but for the life of
me- it goes on invisibly AFAIK on the Eclipse Satine. Tests strips
look to my eye identical before fade testing.

You're supposed to put it on in three coats sprayed in different
directions, the first two light coats and the third moderate.

I've never done south window tests with Satine (shame on me since it
is my favorite paper), but on about five other papers including EAM,
it retards noticably the warming of standard MIS FS and the old Piezo
ink, whether the test strip is sitting in a light tight box or in my
sunny Colorado South window.

Why not spraying EAM?
