Wierd problem with my 3000

The moral of this issue is that I should have bought new. I saved $300 buying used but spent $100 in shipping and so far over $200 on repairs to this supposedly "almost new" printer including new heads. At any rate, special thanks to Paul Roark for helping me out so far! Here is the deal. I have tried the printer on both an XP system and a W98 system with the MIS-VM Sepia inkset. Printing on EAM. Images are those that I have printed with success on my 1280 with the Cone driver/inks. I have used Paul's curves and workflow. When I print via the Epson driver (most current driver downloaded from Epson)I get very distinct microbanding. Colors look good though. If I take the same image, convert to grayscale and print via the Cone driver, there is no microbanding at all - very crisp (of course the color is really ugly!). I am really confused now because I have always had the impression that if you were going to see banding it would be with the Cone driver and not with the Epson driver. I have checked my settings several times. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dave
