good paper prices?

good paper prices?

2002-07-23 by akivisuals

Hey all. I've done my homework on inks, continuous inking
systems and printers, but haven't had the chance to price papers
yet. Where are the cheapest prices found on the net?

I'm looking for some Epson Archival Matte for proofing and the
Hahnemuhle Photo Rag (lighter of the two). I'm open to other
papers as well, but prefer a smooth surface and have heard that
the Photo Rag prints very deep blacks. Are there any other good
papers that I should look into?

Thanks for your help!

Andy

...has the best prices for EAM that I have found. There shipping prices are
very reasonable too (which is usually a big hidden charge at other places).

At least for 13" wide paper, I was surprised to find Gateway
Accessory store to be low cost. And they have distribution centers
all over the place. Takes awhile to get things to the northwest from
the atlex.com store mentioned in this string.

I get my epson Heavyweight Matte S041263, and epson Archival Matte
S041339 at gateway. I haven't priced other types and sizes there.

 Thanks Doug, good prices!
What's the deal on Archival Enhanced Matte and plain Enhanced Matte? I
thought all EAM was now called Enhanced Matte.

I have never seen enhanced matte. I just ordered a box from Atlex, with
the specific instructions that under NO circumstances were they to send
a box of ARCHIVAL matte. I wanted to see the actual difference.

Surprise surprise. They sent a box of ARCHIVAL matte. I'm returning it.
THis is the third time they have sent this paper even though I told them
NOT to.

Jerry,

I thought I read that Enhanced Matte and Archival Matte were the same paper;
that Epson had merely changed the name to avoid being sued for the various
connotations that 'Archival' might have for some. Can someone else confirm
or correct this?

>>What's the deal on Archival Enhanced Matte and plain Enhanced Matte? I
thought all EAM was now called Enhanced Matte.<<

It was my understanding that Epson Archival Matte was changing to the
Enhanced name. After seeing the Atlex page, I thought this kind of
confirmed it. Atlex is still shipping Epson Archival Matte even though
their webpage says differently. I don't know if they updated their site
before they depleted their old stock or if Epson has delayed producing the
new stuff or...? The specs. for the old and new named papers looked the
same when I compared them from various websites.

Just my $.02,
Doug

That was what managers at Epson told me ages ago, and I now see the new
nomenclanture in the more recent printers' drivers, so it appears to be the

Yes, but has anybody on the planet actually seen with their own eyebulbs
a package of letter size enhanced matte paper? I haven't. Also the
weight is slightly different between the two papers, 190 gsms vs 192
gsms. This would indicate SOME change in the paper, somehow.

Re: [was: good paper prices?] Enhanced Matte

2002-07-23 by gschern

According to the latest Epson distributor price book dated 6/2002
that I have as a reference, the Enhanced Matte is only available in
the large format rolls. My distributor also confirms that he has no
pricing or SKU for Enhanced Matte in smaller sheet sizes.

Looking at Epson's website shows Archival Matte in sheet sizes, and
Enhanced Matte in rolls.

So, to answer the question below, NO I haven't seen a box of letter
size Enhanced Matte paper...and, I haven't seen any offical
literature to suggest that there is such a beast...yet...

The mystery continues...

Interesting. I was reading vendor sites and they quoted specs that were the
same (for what the vendors' sites were worth...). I am sure you probably
had a more reliable source.

You can get Enhanced matte in A3+ and A4 sheet sizes here:
