Austin, can you elaborate on this scanning back? It not a lumina is it? I'am
into still life and table top stuff, so this sounds good to me. I would
imagine prices are way down on this sort of gear also.

i think the price on the betterlight 6000 (6000x8000) is down to around 9K.
I use one with the higher sensitivity sensor, and i get better results than
4x5 film (either scanned or projected with an enlarger). Of course there
are lots of gotcha's for landscape type photography, but it's unsurpassed
for still life.

I have two backs, one a one shot, and one a scanning back (7k x 7k), AND I
also have a Lumina. The Lumina can be bought for around $500 or less!!!
It's simply a fantastic camera for still life and studio work. It uses
Nikon lenses...and is a TRUE 9M pixel camera...and, yes, is a scanning
camera BTW.

Regards,

Austin

Austin,

The Lumina sounds like it might be perfect for one of my needs -
photographing artwork. (And probably fun to play around with too.)
Any leads on where I might be able to find one at that price? The
last one that was listed on eBay had a starting bid of over $1000
(and didn't sell btw).

Thanks,

-Jason

Hi Jason,

That's a PERFECT use for it! Where are you located, BTW? I'm in Harvard,
MA, USA.

Some thing to be aware of with the Lumina...there were two firmwares for it,
one for NT and one for not NT...mine works fine with the non-NT firmware on
the Mac, but not on the PC...which is why I'm trying to get the NT firmware
working on the PC.

I have seen them on eBay for $400 or so, like new...so keep looking. I'll
keep my eyes open for you too.

Regards,

Austin

Austin,

Sounds good. I "swing both ways" (Mac and PC I mean), so it wouldn't matter
too much to me, though I tend to prefer the Mac for imaging stuff. I'll keep
a lookout on eBay, hopefully something will turn up.

I'm in the DC area, Northern Virginia actually. I just scored a sweet
house-sitting gig, where I'll have an extra room for a studio, so I'm hoping
to be a lot more productive in the near future. And maybe I'll finally get
that website of mine done...
