Thanks, but I did download Chris's workflow, and the pdf file that goes
with it, but the pdf describes the workflow as being for the Epson 1160
printer, so I thought that it would do me no good, as I have an Epson
3000. Will it work for a 3000?

Robert:

Chris Brandin's is the only partitioned RGB workflow that I am aware
of for the MIS original quads. Although it is written for the 1160,
it might work for the 3000 -- you'll need to give it a try and
experiment. If Chris' workflow doesn't work for you and you are not
ready to start tweaking the 3 partitioned color curves, you could try
John Woolf's lumped workflow which has only 1 curve.

FWIW, I recommend you sell or pitch the MIS original carts and switch
to VM, VM-sepia, FS, FS-N. In general I have found the blacks are
better and there are obviously more choices of workflows. You also
might want to consider the PiezoBW driver which now can be purchased
separetly and the FS or FS-N inkset which were formulated to work
with PiezoBW. The major advantage of the PiezoBW driver is that
there are many paper profiles and a very large community of users.

Good Luck

Thanks for the suggestions! Sure, I will give Chris' workflow a try, I
have nothing to lose. I am going to go ahead and use up the ink carts
that I currently have, as I have them in hand, and I have a lot of really
basic printing issues to learn about (total newbie, here) for which they
will work just fine. I will think about which of the other MIS options I
will order, to replace what I have now, when they begin to dry up.

Am I correct in assuming that as long as I stay with MIS inks, I can just
pull all four of the older carts and replace them with the new set
without flushing the system, or will I have to use cleaning cartridges to
make the transition?

I will stay with the Epson drivers for the moment, as buying the printer
set me back a fair amount of cash, and also, I want to make changes one
at a time, so I can see their results, and better get a feel for which
variable is responsible for what changes, in the print process.

thanks,

Good idea. You will go through many carts and boxes of paper in the
learning process. Atlantic Exchange is an excellent supplier of
EAM/EEM paper -- http://www.atlex.com/

I recommend that you actually test/try several of the inkset options
in carts before you settle on your favorite and buy a CIS/CFS
system. You can get wide ranging opinions of which inkset is the
best here and in other forums, but only you and your eye can be the
final judge of what works for your images and your setup.

No compatability problems that I'm aware of. You will probably need
to do a couple of cleaning cycles after switching carts and do some
routine preventivative head and pad cleaning as well (search on
Windex here and check the MIS and PiezoBW sites for lots of cleaning
tips).

Excellent plan.
