Wow! What a lively, informative forum this is. The problem is,
there is SO much information here, that is really overwhelming to
someone who's just coming in and trying to get to the simple
mechanics of WHICH printer/WHICH ink for the most archival and best
printing qualities. I thought I understand basic digital printing,
obviously not--You guys are GOOD! :)

So, I'm going to try to get my answer in the simplest way I know:
Tell you my conclusions, and y'all tell me if I'm close.

#1) I can't use my 1270 since it doesn't support the inks I need.
#2) Since a 11x14 is large enough for me, a 1280, used solely for
black and white printing; with Piezo inks and software is my best bet.

Am I close? :)
Thanks so much,

No, you can use any ink you want with a 1270...you just need either a
Continuous Inks Supply or Carts with 1270 chips...see www.inksupply.com or
www.inkjetgoodies.com

I'm currently using piezotone inks in a 1280 and 7000 with imageprint. I've
used all of the other inks (MIS, Lyson, Conetech PiezoBW, epson, etc.) and a
partitioned workflow, piezo driver and imageprint. Piezotone inks in my
opinion are the best...most interesting tones and by far the best dmax. But
there are people who argue for MIS inks with a RGB partitioned workflow for
various reasons including the potential for various BW tones with the same
inkset and price. Personally I think that piezotone inks and the piezo
driver are the easiest way to get started. Once you know that you like the
prints I would then consider a software upgrade to Imageprint for better
image quality and higher dmax.
