Barry,

I have had this happen a couple of times on the 1280. You just need to wipe
out the "trough" between the sets of rollers where the head moves back and
forth. I have used rubbing alcohol or a mixture of alcohol and water or
Windex with paper towels. When you print the back of the paper should be
ridding on the plastic nubs that stick up above the foam. These should be
clean. If the foam is above these nubs, push it down. Once it wipes clean
you should be ready to go. Maybe send a piece of scrap paper through first
to make sure you got it all.

Martin,

Thanks for the quick response. Why are you up so late? Just cleaned
the rollers or whatever they are. Any idea what causes the ink build
up? It seems excessive. Maybe I'm just noticing this, any cause for
alarm or ways to prevent?

Barry,

California time here. Still early. My guess at an explanation is that the
ink accumulates during cleaning cycles and during printing when the printer
sprays some ink into the foam to make sure the jets are staying clear. I
usually see the problem when I have been printing a lot of small sheets of
paper and then change to larger sheets, especially heavy papers.

I think prevention is just a matter of some routine maintenance like nozzle
checks and head alignments. When you think of it just wipe out that area of
the printer to keep the build up down.

Re: [Digital BW] Ink on back of paper

2002-08-21 by bggilliand2001

Martin,

Ah, California, one of my favorite places. Last year San Francisco,
Hiway 1 to Carmel and then to Monterey and Big Sur. Way before I got
the photo bug again, but another story. Your advise was right on. I
cleaned the rolled heads with alchohol and all is right with the
world and my job is done. The sponge is really saturated with ink.
Guess that is part of the process, still a novice with so much to
learn. Late for me (Atlanta; Eastern!) Thanks again for your
assistance.

Barry,

Big Sur is most likely where the bug got you - it just took a while to
incubate!

Karl Wolz
Arizona - on Cal time this time of year

the photo bug again, but another story..
