Bill, If I set photoshop for a 1.8 and the monitor for a 2.2, would I
have to make changes to all my images when printing? Both are currently 1.8.

No, leave it alone Jerry! You have a system that works! The only problem
maybe sending your files to a colourlab for printing.

When I first starting doing this stuff I'd heard Macs were the best for
imaging so I set everything (on a PC) to 1.8 gamma - boy did a feel a fool
later...

Photoshop adjusts your gamma as needed; images look and print identically 
despite what gamma your monitor is set to.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
