time delay with point and shoot digital
2002-09-06 by MARK MAIO
Stan, The reason there for the delay is that there is a "dark correct" being done each time you make an exposure. Temperature affects the amount of "noise" rendered in a digital image. High end commercial digital backs have a manual dark correct feature built into the software which compensates for an increase in temperature by adjusting the dark level of the image. The CoolPix does one automatically before each exposure. My guess is that the SLR's have some combination of both which will allow for much faster capture rates. Mark Maio Not to mention the unpredictability of the actual shutter release. My Nikon Coolpix 800 takes a picture whenever it feels like it after you press the shutter. Do the digital SLRs have more immediate shutter response? For street photography I use an old, unpretentious looking Yashica rangefinder. Stan [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
