Has anyone seen a firm scientific report or just a DIY attempt that there
are differences between the Hahnemuhle paper coating and the special Lyson
coated version of Hahnemuhle paper ? This tale is going on since the fade
disaster of the Wilhelm Fotonic test. After that Lyson promised a better
coating for their papers. At the Drupa now more than 2 years ago Hahnemuhle
officials denied any difference between the coatings and they would
certainly not deliver uncoated paper to third parties for coating. The last
I can believe as their paper production wasn't able to keep up with their
own sales for months.

There's friction in the relation between Hahnemuhle and Lyson. Hahnemuhle
had a deal with Lyson for the distribution of their papers on the Iris
market. When the Epson piezo revolution occured the market shifted and
Hahnemuhle sold their paper to everyone. The Epson variety of Lyson inks and
especially the Fotonic LC and LM inks behaved very different on the papers
than the Iris variety did, resulting in the bad Wilhelm tests. At that time
this tale about a new coating was born and the misleading fade properties
page at Lyson's site appeared.
