sorry to disappoint you, but it has nothing to do with firewire :-) firewire bandwidth is actually wasted here, but "looks good" on the specs.

What a difference a CPU makes!....

I usually assign an older computer as print server, and in the case of the 2200
I had it connected to a Mac with dual 601 chips - a perfectly capable machine
in other ways, just slow. It used to print from the 1160 very quickly, so I never
  thought the CPU speed mattered.

When I hooked up the 2200, I resigned myself to those usual 15-20 minute
print times I had seen with the 1280, regardless of using firewire or USB.
Today I hooked the printer up to a G4/800 (firewire) and saw the real speed: A
37 MB RGB file going to a letter size print at 1440, High Speed = OFF, took a
mere 7 minutes from clicking "Print" to finish.

That's why this one has the firewire, I guess. Impressive!

Yes, I've been impressed with the speed of the 2200 with firewire as well.

On another note, has anybody had any problems with installing the drivers
for the 2200 on Windows XP? I get two printer icons installed and I have to
manually assign the port of one of them to the firewire port.

Also, does anybody's 2200 make a printer head-clanking sound, or is there
pretty much a continuous pitch/level of sound to your printers? A call to
Epson is on my list to do, but first I have to finish some paying jobs on
the 2200.

Yes, several people have reported this noise. It appears (at least on
mine) to be caused by the ribbon cables attached to the head slapping
together or against the cover. Epson says it is "normal".

I have the same noise - like Carl said, from the ribbon. Too bad for an
otherwise ultra quiet engine. Any dampening ideas???
