Digital BW, The Print

There have been many rumors about the new profiles that Bill 
Atkinson created for the 7600/9600. (Bill worked at Apple years 
ago, and was one of the founders of Hypercard. He's no slouch).

I don't know much of this story, but he worked for a very long time 
to create good profiles for these new printers. There is a PDF 
below from him that explains some background of this task:

(I hate uploaded files that have spaces in them as this does. If 
this link doesn't work, go to lwsphoto.com and click on WHAT'S 
NEW, and look for 7600 Profiles).

The PDF is very telling. Even if you don't use these profiles, or if 
you don't have one of these printers, it's still interesting to 
download the PDF and read it. He talks about the trouble in 
getting a good neutral grey, etc.

Thanks for Bill for spending the time to create these. I 
understand at this point, the profiles are only for the PhotoBlack, 
glossy papers, but hopefully this will change. Thanks too to 
Lawrence Smith for uploading them to his site.

Hopefully these new profiles will up the level of BW quality, 
without having to be forced to use a RIP.
