adding ink to a CFS

adding ink to a CFS

2002-10-01 by Richard Sintchak

Hello all,

My first bottles of my CFS filled with FS-N are about 2/3 empty. I
thought I remember reading on this list that one should not go much
below 1/3 of ink left before adding more. New 4 oz. bottles of ink
just arrived from inkjetgoodies today. Since I've never done this I
want to make sure I do it right. Do I just unscrew the caps on the
bottles and simply pour more ink in? Any need to shake or mix the
bottles, either the old ones or new ones first? Perhaps it is as
simple as it sounds but if someone could re-assure me or add any hint
or two of something I might be forgetting I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

Best regards,
 Richard

This is what I do.

The new bottles have been well mixed in the shipping process. I
lightly swirl the bottle rack once a week to keep the current inks
stirred up. Don't know if it helps or not, but it makes me feel
better.

Richard, did just that Sunday. All I did was unscrew the cap on the
new bottle, clamped off the tubing for the ink I was replacing,
nscrewed that cap and with a small funnel poured it in. A slight
swish and unclamped the tubing and started printing

Richard,

I added MIS FSN to Piezo Sundance and regretted it in terms of clogs
that persisted, the expense of wasted paper and poor use of scarce
time. I should have pinched (I use small jubilee clips - don't know
what they are called in the US but they hold sheets of paper tight
together)the breather and supply tubes, emptied and cleaned out the
bottles. With the new ink in place I would have removed the tubimg
from the cart and then the supply clip and squeezed the new ink to
fill the tube. Reclip and push the tube back on the cart. You need
someting to catch the ink you expel. Watch out for the carpet! <g>

In the end I did this, but only to the black because that was where
my clogs were worse.

The microbanding (about 8 lines per millimetre) I had suffered for
months continued. This last weekend I had my first enjoyable day
printing since I bought into Piezo. But this was because I tried the
Woolf workflow - no microbanding. I still get one or two clogs after
printing in the coloured bottles although I don't see the effects on
the print. When this happens I clean once and they're gone. I guess
in time the grey Piezo inks will dance outa the bottles.

I am now happier but, of course, this might not work for you.
