Suggestions for cutting rolls of paper?

Suggestions for cutting rolls of paper?

2002-10-03 by tjphotoct

This may be silly but I'm probably not the only person who has
tried to use wide rolls of paper with a 3000.
I got some "good deals" on rolls of paper that are too wide for the
3000. I don't have a clue which is the best way to cut off the ends
of the rolls of paper. Is there some type of saw out there that can
cut through the paper cleanly?
I have tried a hack saw but that was messy and I am clueless
when it comes to using tools.
Thanks,
Thom Jackson

Thom,

In my 3000 I us EAM (EEM, actually) that is cut from 24" rolls. I slice of
17" using straight edges and a razor knife. I then take the 17x24" piece
and lay it between 2 clean blotter papers that have been evenly dampened
with distilled water -- not soaking wet. I use a hand sprayer to do this as
evenly as possible. I use the blotter paper box as a press to flatten the
sandwich. After the EAM has been there a couple of minutes, I feed it into
the 3000 via the front paper tray, using the "Load/Eject" button to pre-load
it. So, I'm printing on paper that is a hair damp (not wet), has no curl
left in it, may be slightly wavy, is 24" long, and works perfectly every
time.

Good luck.

Paul

Paul,
You are a very patient man. Contrast your method with this
madman in the garage hacking away at the entire roll of paper
with little bits of paper chaff flying everywhere.
I admire you.
Thom
