Don't know if this will help at all, but the torchon profile I had made works very well with eclipse and MIS archival color inks.

Jerry or anyone,

I know I was asking you about this some days ago, but my head exploded since
then, so please forgive my redundancy. Using the MIS VM inks (B/W), how do
you find Eclipse's blacks? I find the tonality to most closely resemble
Museo, which is good, but surely no Dmax champ. Is that about how you see
it, or are you getting better than that? Nowhere near as good as Torchon,
right?

Eclipse Satine Blacks was Re: Eclipse Satine icc

2001-09-08 by Martin Wesley

Todd,

I find the MIS VM blacks on Eclipse Satin to be a bit under EAM but
close. Torchon and HPR have deeper blacks but I don't have a curve
for them yet. I also like the Eclipse's very neutral tone and bright
neutral white (No lavender, blue or green tint). There is a trade off
here. For me the base white offsets the loss in the blacks. Overall
the range of the image seems very nice. However, if those brightners
are going to turn yellow....

I don't know if that helps or not.

Todd, Close to EAM.

I have a very nice print on it now, will do the same print on EAM and Epson Watercolor and get back to you in about an hour with comparison.

Jerry

VM black is the blackest of the MIS blacks.

Re: [Digital BW] Eclipse Satine icc

Todd, I just made the prints.

If you don't look at them side by side, the Eclipse looks great, just
like the EAM and Epson Watercolor.
When you put all three side by side, Its an odd sight. The eclipse paper
is so much whiter than the Epson papers, it looks like they have the
same deep black. When you look closely, the Epson Watercolor and
Archival are the tiniest bit blacker, but the papers are ivory in
comparison to Eclipse, so the Eclipse looks like a nicer print.

I guess you pays your money and takes your choice!

Jerry

Torchon paper has good blacks, but I'm now experiencing an unacceptable
scuffing with this paper. You have to handle it VERY carefully, the big
texture highs and lows tend to rub off when you shuffle prints.

I guess there is no such thing as an ideal paper.

Jerry,

I concur with this post in it's entirety. I'm also experiencing the
fragility of Torchon. Anyway, thanks, I just needed to know if my results
were atypical. Now I can just decide.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
