Icefields RIP

Icefields RIP

2002-10-18 by photographs42

There has been a considerable amount of discussion on this and other
lists about different RIPs and their cost and performance. I have not
seen anything about Isis Imaging here. A few years ago, when I first
became interested in Quad Tone printing (before IJM entered the
picture) I was looking at Isis. At that time they had a product
called Icefields LT that was reasonably priced (around $50.00 I
think) and only had two problems for me.

1. It only worked on a MAC.
2. It required a complete Postscript RIP. (The Epson Postscript RIP
wasn't and still isn't good enough.)

By the time I acquired a MAC System (from my brother who upgraded)
the LT version had been discontinued and the full version wouldn't
work on the MAC I had. The full version is $600.00 and as I recall a
qualified Postscript RIP was around $200.00.

Anyway, I have studied the Postscript language to a degree and it
always seamed to me to be the best way to control a printer.

Has anyone looked into, or better yet, used the Icefilds software?

Their web address is: http://www.isisimaging.com/

Anybody?
