1160 Printer/Help

1160 Printer/Help

2002-11-07 by billbs@attbi.com

I've got a 1160 printer that is giving me trouble. I've never had trouble with
it in the past , so I'm not sure what to do. The black head is terminally
clogged or it's premeturely out of ink (which I suspect is the case).
However, I'm having no luck getting the print heads into the position to
change the cartrages. The system does not show that it is ready for ink,
so every time I push the button and hold for 3 sec it just goes into a
cleaning cycle. I've tried pulling the plug during the time it is doing that,
but that does not release the head (I can not move it easly manually and I
am afraid I will damage it). Can anyone tell me what to do? Would
appreciate any help I can get. Please email me or post on the list. I
would probably get a email faster and I'm dead in the water now. Thanks
so much guys/gals.

press and hold the paper jam button, and it should send the cartridges to
the left. Try to clean the printheads from underneath with the folded over
paper towel/ammonia trick.

If you turn the big plastic gear on the left hand side it will
disengage the print heads and you can just drag them over.

Yes, do this to disengage-or I'm able to release my 1280 just by
pushing down on the white post that sits up at the bottom middle left
of printhead in parked position with power off and unplugged. The 1160
is similar.

You don't give enough info to determine what is needed. What ink you
use/ whether a CIS/CFS is used, are crucial questions. But you need to
get that nozzle clear ASAP if it has run dry (there may just be air in
it though). Get some Epson brand new carts in there and try to recover
with no more than 3 cleaning cycles followed by a purge pattern
printout. If you can clear the pattern you can stop counting minutes
and determine whats wrong from there. But those nozzles shouldn't sit
dry for many hours..
