Help: Dried ink in 1160 VM cartridge

Help: Dried ink in 1160 VM cartridge

2002-11-08 by peter_in_seattle

Hi all,

I've got an Epson 1160 with the MIS VM pre-filled cartridges. I made the
mistake of letting it sit unused for about 6 months... fortunately there was no
damage to the printer, but it appears that the ink (ink sponge?) in the
"magenta" tank of the "color" VM cartridge is dried out.

I know it's not the print head, because I popped in an OEM Epson cartridge,
and magenta printed fine. But I get banding with the VM cartridge.

My question is whether there's a quick & easy way to sort of rehydrate the
magenta tank, or whether I need to chuck the cartridge and start with a new
one.

Also: If I do have to replace the cart, I want to switch to MIS FS... is that black
different from the black I got with the VM set?

Thanks,
Peter

Gosh, just throw it away...I wouldn't even use an Epson dye ink cart
that had the top yellow seal pulled off after 6 months, let alone
installed in printer. That used pig cart is dead. Rehydrating it will
change the delicate makeup of the ink fluid, which is already dried up
anyway and thrown off I guess...<g>
When I fill my own (1280) carts with VM I save half the price of
buying them prefilled from MIS.
