Hi Phil,

Nope. The computer did it all by itself.

Roy, Something like this must have happened, although, when the computer
changed to system 9.2.1, it still booted from the hard drive that had
9.2.2 on it. This is what is so weird. Now, when I select "Startup
disk", it says that system 9.2.2 is running on another disk drive, that
NEVER had that system installed on it. This is VERY strange.

I may have to a whole reinstall.... :(

Jerry, sounds like there may have been a "which disk are you
running" problem for a longer time. Before big reinstall efforts
I'd spend a little time trying to figure out what systems are
where and which ones boot. One thing to know is that 9.2.2
is just a minor update from 9.2.1, so in a 9.2.2 system some
files are labeled 9.2.2 but many are still from 9.2.1.

Look in the System Folder for each disk, there's a file "System"
select it and "Get Info". That should tell you what system is really
on that disk. If you try to boot from a disk (via Startup Disk)
that should end up the top disk on the right side of the desktop.
If not then the boot software couldn't boot from that disk and
tried another.

There are many of the same issues if you have multiple
Photoshops on your system -- i.e. which one are you running
when you double-click on a ps file? A running application
will be 'selected' if you look at the folder containing it.

Good luck and feel free to email me if you like.

Hi, Barrett,

Yes, there's only one system on my main disk

This is the problem. It is telling me that one of my drives has 9.2.2 on
it, but THAT drive has NEVER had system 9.2.2 on it. It is my BOOT disk
that had that system on it, and all by itself the computer changed it to 9.2.1.

Yes, but if everything went wrong on my main drive, it would be awful
nice to
have a bootable working backup drive.

I've never had my plugins in that folder. They've always been in the
main plugins folder.

I agree with both statements. But the way to do this I think is to
rename the systems that are serving as the backups something other
than "system" (perhaps their version; i.e. "9.2.1"). This will
prevent the system folders in which they reside from being "blessed"
with the special system folder icon and it will prevent the Mac from
booting from them. Should one's working system ever fail
castastrophically, one can boot from a CD just to rename the backup
system back to "system". That system folder will then become
re-"blessed" and -voila- a bootable backup system on call - and - one
that stays in the garage with the doors locked until it is needed.

Unless Jerry does something like this, I think it is inevitable that
he will continue to experience strange happenings such as
disappearing plug ins, probably caused by multiple preference folders
in multiple system folders. Unblessing those system folders should
prevent the preferences therein to be confused with the active ones.

It's just Good Mac Hygiene!

Makes great sense Bob. I'll do it right away.
