Seeking advice on printer

2002-11-15 by giedrius_va

Hello group,

I am currently on the market for a printer to do my B&W work. I have
narrowed down to two choices: Epson 895 and Canon S820. I will
probably use Lyson Quad Black inks. It seems that Epson printers are
generally regarded as "best", but I really like individual ink
cartridges of the Cannon. The idea of replaceable printer head is
also appealing in case I would like to print in color.

Did someone have any good or bad experience with these printers? I
would be happy to hear it.

Many thanks,
Giedrius

I am using MIS in an older Epson 740 with good results. You can find these or better still 880 or even 980 printers on Ebay. No chip hassles to worry about. If you are staying in the 8 1/2" range then Canon has many 4 color models as well with individual tanks. I have contacted MIS and they told me that Canon specific inksets are in the works.

From other posts I have gathered that although the printhead is easily replaceable it is not an item you can purchase, but is only provided as a warranty exchange.

I'm waiting for specific inksets for the Canons, but I've heard that people are getting good results with Lyson color inks in Canon printers. Check out the S9000 Yahoo group. There is not much traffic on this list, but the moderator of the largest Epson group in the world is happily plugging the s9000 with Lyson inks on this list, and will be glad to answer your questions.

Giedrius-

I'm sure the Canon is a fine printer, but the problem is that most of
the work done so far is with Epson printers...curves, piezo plugins
etc. My advice would be to stay with Epson for now. The companies
both provide great support, but the Epson user group, especially for
BW, is much more evolved.
