All right Mark!!! You are a true Photo nut! Gotta love it. Your enthusiasm is
a big boost. Your going to love that Ebony, I bought one last year, and now I
think I need to buy a 9600 so I can go on more road trips to get away from
the dissapointing blacks and clear My head. ;)

All I'm saying is that I value the interchange on this list. In
addition to that, it crossed my mind that there are people who
read this list, who might have interesting images to view. But
maybe those people, for whatever reason, don't have a site to
post them. I thought it would be interesting to provide a free-form
server to post some of these images. I might be inviting anarchy,
and I'm open to that, but with a gig of storage space, why not
experiment and go with the chaos?

I'm not even sure how it would be implemented; i'm open to
suggestions if anybody's been down this road. All I know is that
images seen tend to clear the road; either they connect and your
message gets through, or else your images don't connect. I like
the idea of communicating through our images, and when given
this opportunity of a gig of storage, I said why not?

I like the concept of free-form controlled anarchy. Somehow ,
when you see people's pictures, in addition to ,or rather than,
their words, you get their message so much more clearly. I offer
this storage space to this group.

My desire with this site is to provide some server space to
members of this list who might not have a place to show their
images. I have no idea how it will work; it's very much in its
infancy right now.

I'm completely open to ideas on how it could be set up, and how
it could be the most effective and supportive of this group. My
desire is that it would/could be self-managed, and each person
would have a User/Pass so that they could go in and alter it at
their leisure. One thing that's keeping me from moving forward is
fear of being bombarded with "How Do I?" questions; I'm not
sure how to avoid that.

I have a gig of storage. That's more than anybody could ever use.
I'm looking for a very democratic, almost socialist approach,
where everybody is equal, ie twenty photos, all 640 pixels wide,
etc. So that's it's all about the content, not about the design. It's
about the image.

I'm all ears (unless it's a HowDoYou question).

the list says 2166 members x 20 images = 43320 images x 120k = over
5 gigs! that will be quite a socialist experiment. so if just under
20% are interested, it will work!

but realistically, I imagine you could divide the space up pretty
nicely to accomodate many many images. and to make it truly for those
without access to their own or other sites, those of us with other
space, could show fewer images, but have links to our sites.

what sorts of altering do you imagine people needing to do beyond
uploading images and text.

I agree visual design should be of little importance compared to the
image, but if you really wanna keep the "what the hell!?" questions to
a minimum, you gotta start with well designed tools.

oh by the way, I finally got my 2000p running with mis fs-hex so much
of the talk can now be more than just edutainment!

Mark,

As an alternative thought, why not let anybody on this list put up
one photo and give them a chance to change several times a
year...This way we can see recent work from people we talk to all the
time on this email list. You could additionally link web sites for
those that have them as many on this list are professionals who keep
a body of work in cyber space 24/7.
