Bernd,

Yes it was me who asked about the Shoellershammer papers. I only have a swatch of those so far. They are beautiful too (look/feel) and I will test them with an image as soon as possible. Late last night/early this morning when I was examining the HWRS/Photo Rag prints, I took the swatch of Shoel. papers and felt them too. It was very hard to tell them apart (maybe impossible). But despite appearances, I have found that the best looking paper can yield a completely different image if the coating is different. See my last note at the bottom. I tested another paper (not Shoel.) that looks/feels great but it did not yield as good an image as HWRS....it was far from it. So I will not make any comments about Shoel. papers until I have actually printed an image on them.

Have fun with your HWRS samples...and don't waste them on a greyscale ramp...use a real image to see the beauty.

Steadman

  Steadman,
the paper you are discribing is called Photo Rag 188, 308
(working name) in Germany. A sample set was sent by
Hahnemühle to me yesterday, but the postmann didn´t get me at
home today, so the parcel will be redelivered tomorrow. After
having read your statement I will get no sleep this night waiting
  anxiously for the sunrise.
BTW wasn´t it you who reported on Schoellershammer
Watercolor Rough before on the Piezo list (see my message on
this list). The papers seem to be rather alike. Did you compare
  them??
  Bernd

That is a bold statement so let me back it up with some facts
  and observations:

And..no I don't work for them. I just like their papers and those of
  other manufacturers too.

side and lavender (acid free-neutral) on the backside.

My dealer is T-Square in Miami. They have an office just down the block from my office here in Boca Raton. Their prices are better than any I have found on the web.

Mike,

I'll beg the obvious question:

would they be willing to sell / ship across the country? (I suppose they don't
have a site) - and if so, where can we call for orders?

I hope we are not overloading them or otherwise interfering with your
relationship with them.

Antonis,

The sales person for T-Square is Cheri Aleman. She can be reached at
305-324-1234. I can not imagine why they would not sell nationally.

Greetings Bernd!

Yes, you made me jealous! (grin)

So to make up for it....why don't you use your ample stock of sample sheets and test several profiles for us all....

I tested only the Orwell and CT Matte profiles and they looked very similar but the CTM was preferable for the image I used. But very good results with either one. I chose Orwell becuase HWRS is probably going to be my replacement for Orwell...and it is similar in weight.

I chose CTMatte because I wanted to do a direct comparison with the EAM using the same profile. Also, the HWRS is so smooth, it is most like the Han. Matte and EAM in surface....of course that may not make a bit of difference due to different coatings from EAM.

If I had paper to burn, I would probably try Somerset Enhanced Profile, Concorde Rag profile. So those four would be a good spread I would think.

I just looked at those two test prints a few minutes ago and I believe it will be very difficult to improve on the image quality...very difficult. So I would not waste any time/paper on trying every other profile. I did that with Extreme Gamut Satine and over 20 profiles. Many of them are very similar.

Best of luck to you and post your results and comments when you print....just remember to do a test using the same image file on HWRS and EAM (and others)...and don't forget to do a head alignment each time before changing papers (I always print a head aligment and nozzle check on the back of each paper sample I test). Those head alignments make a big difference.

Have fun,
Steadman

  Steadman,
just couldn´t resist to make you a little jealous ;-)

Some minutes ago, I got my Photo Rag 308gsm sample sheets
  from Hahnemühle.
  8 sheets of DIN A 2 (16"x23").
Now, how shall I use this treasure.
  So many questions:
  First: what shall I print?
And then: what profile. How many sheets shall I cut down
and....shall I use one or two for color, hhmmmm....?
  No,no, no.... no color, or?

  To be serious:
though Hahnemühle says the coating is identicall to German
Etching, they told me, the surface is a little brighter. At first glance
I can´t see the difference. but maybe the Orwell profile won´t fit
automatically best. It seems that the CTM profile was best for
you. Did you try others than Orwell meanwhile?
Help me not to waste ink and paper.
  Thanks
  Bernd

  PS
Hahnemuhle told me, they are just making the paper ready to
ship. It isn´t shipped yet in quantities (just samples), but will be
shipped to resellers mid to late August. So everybody be happy if
you have some German Etching in stock.

At the risk of being the lone dissenter in the praise for the
new "wunder paper", I've tested the new Hahnemuhle sheet. Sure, it's
a good sheet - but that's it. I'd use the new smoother Somerset or
Museo over it. Better than all of them was the sample of a possible
new Concorde sheet - in white and a bit heavier (225gsm) than the
creamy one we've been using. It was a test sheet I got from a friend
in France, so not sure if it's going to be available here, but boy
were the blacks were incredible!

Re: Eureka: Wunder Papier Found

Hello _ ,

the news of a new Concorde sheet is very interesting. Do you know what
actual mill manufactures it? Is it the same as the Somersets? (St. Cuthberts
Mill). Also, when you mention the deep black - is that with piezo inks?

May I ask you to perhaps mention your name - or introduce yourself. We are
pretty much used to people writing posts with their names attached and that
helps create a friendlier environment, as opposed to a totally anonymous
post. I believe the other members here would appreciate it too.

Thanks for the paper info!

Antonis

I heard directly from the Concorde rag guy, he says the white concorde rag
should be out in the US soon.

My apologies. My name is Martin Guillaume. I am new to the list,
and not a very active reader. I wish I had the time. I was just
browsing the web when I came across this group. I will try to check
more frequently, maybe next week.

Concorde is made by a small mill in France owned by International
Paper. I do not know the name of the mill. I have a friend who has
a friend who has a friend who got me the test sheet of a new Concorde.
