Photo / EX / 700/ for B&W?

I did pretty much just that, just to see if I'd get some life out of my Photo Ex. I converted it to Lyson Quads. It gives me quite decent prints that by themselves look terrific. Side by side with prints made on the 1280, though, you can see much more detail in the newer machine's output (albeit with the color shift problems produced by the OEM inks making B&W prints, of course). My feeling is that if you're producing pretty serious work you'll be a little disappointed simply because you know what *can* be done. In retrospect, I wouldn't do it again. I'd put the $ to work towards a 1280. Turn back the clock about 4 years, though, and you'd probably fall over dead at the output from an EX dedicated to B&W with a good ink set.
