They are quite different animals. The Real World is three times thicker,
and has a lot more to it. It is for all users of photoshop, and gives
you answers to just any problem you could ever have. The Martin Evening
really is geared more towards photography. Both are excellent. Take a
look at both if you have access to a large bookstore.

You can also check out Barry Haynes' book Photoshop 7 Artistry. Go to
www.barryhaynes.com and check it out. It's all about photo
applications in easy to understand language.

eMac?

2002-12-11 by Bruce Kinch

Has anyone had experience using monitor calibration pucks/software
with the Apple eMac? Or used it for image processing or for printing?
With a 17" flat CRT screen and G4 processor, sounds like it should
make a decent Photoshop box/printer driver, but I've seen no mention
of it in the forums.

Don't know if I should recommend it to my students on a budget.

I've put a lot of effort into getting into PhotoShop lately, and I've got
several books on my shelf now, including Adobe's standard user manual,
their "Classroom in a book," PS for Photographers, and PS Artistry. I've
found the last to be by *far* the most useful. I haven't checked out
Real World PS.

I find that Willmore's, Photoshop 7 : Studio Techniques is a very
well written book. It doesn't cover everything like Blatner, but it
does a very good job with the main techniques and comes with an good
cd of images for practice...same examples that are used in the book.

Blatner does not have a cd.....If you want a handbook/reference to go
with Willmore, then use the Visual Quickstart Photoshop 7 by Weinmann.

Ben Willmore's book is one of the best - I'm surprised it was not mentioned
earlier!

I have both "Photo Shop for Photographers" and "Real World PhotoShop" by
Bruce Fraser and David Blatner. I found "Real World PS" MUCH more
informative and much easier to read and understand. I have PS 7 but I am
using the PS 6 book though because I could get it for really cheap and a lot
of the most basic concepts do not change. Just a cheap trick to save some
money if you need to.
