Peter,
Without carts in place, the Epson printhead will dry out. I don't know about a standard method
for storage, but, if you liken clogs to getting the flu, I've found regular Epson carts to be a very
effective vaccine. I've left my own 740s and 1160s for 3+ months and gotten good nozzle checks
after one cleaning cycle; if I'd left them unused with quad blacks installed, I'd have had major
problems. Somebody in the group recently suggested that regular Epson ink has a solvent
that helps prevent clogs -- they sure behave as if they did.

Leave the cleaning carts in the printer when not in use for months.

Peter,

I agree with John. The best way to store your printer for a long period is
to install Epson cartridges, get good nozzle checks and leave them in until
you return. I have successfully started up an Epson 785 that had been in
storage with Epson cartridges for 14 months. Took about 8 nozzle cleanings
but it is running fine.

I strongly suspect that if you leave it without any carts that it will
completely dry out on you and the odds are high it might never run again
without new heads.

This may not be a solution for everyone - but, how about installing
cartridges loaded with windex?

I have an old 1270 sitting in my closet. It went there because it
experienced an intractable clog problem, and I never got around to
fixing it. I just loaded up with OEM cartridges, and set it aside (6
months back). I am going to get it out, and see how it performs, and
perhaps try loading virgin carts with windex. I will report back any
observations I have.
