Selfpublishing Book Compiled info?

2002-12-14 by Cleavis <lyonscox@cableone.net>

I'm going to go back into the archives some over the next several
days and try to re-read the threads about people interested in self-
publishing: books, calendars, two sided, etc.

Was wondering if it's been compiled somewhere yet?
Best links on your searches are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cleavis

I don't think that I've seen this on the list, but these workshops
might be useful. You can get more info at:

    http://www.sjphoto.com/workshops.html

Steve's added a series of workshops aimed at publishing problems,
including:

   New Workshops

   Making a Digital Book
   March 29, 2003
   Stephen Johnson Photography Studios
   Pacifica, California.

   Duotones in Photoshop
December 7, 2002 (yeah, we missed it, but it'll come around again)
   Stephen Johnson Photography Studios

[disclaimer: Steve's a friend of mine, though I have I no $ interest]

Just an FYI, after deciding to make a calendar for the holidays, and
researching binding machines (which I have found are pretty expensive) I am
going to go to Kinkos and have them Wire Bind it together. They said they
can do up to an inch and a half and it seems to only cost a couple bucks.
It seems like wire binding is a nice choice for photo books because the book
will always lie flat. Yes it will have that "Journal" look about it but I
kind of like that. Of course plastic binding is another option but I think
the metal looks a bit sturdier. I don't know if there is a tremendous
amount of interest in this type of book making but if anyone would like to
start a group on the subject I would definitely join. I looked for groups
but all I could find was really fancy Japanese type binding clubs, and to
these people, wire binding is blasphemy...

I know absolutely nothing about book making, but I have always been
interested in it. If some one does start a list I would join also.

I would happily join such a discussion, but I'm not volunteering to
start a group.

I have a desktop wire binding machine I use for binding reports (my day
job is architecture). It works well for binding books of photo prints
of the kind Jim is talking about.

Selfpublishing Book Compiled info?

2002-12-17 by Jim <jimp@rainbowstudios.com>

Hello list, well, I have decided to make a list dedicated to book and
calendar making for photographers and other digital artist. Its
description is as follows...

"This group was started with the idea of sharing information on the
creation of books and calendars used to show off digital prints.
This idea came mostly out of the need to share photographic work with
family and friends in the form of books or calendars. This is not a
group dedicated to the art or craft of book making more then it is a
group of photographers wanting a way to show off their work in a
fairly inexpensive but clean, and non-complicated way. This forum
is not affiliated with any commercial venture and is open to all."

The address is,
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Photographic_Book_and_Calendar_Making/

I am not sure what to expect as I have never created or moderated a
group before, so if anyone has any tips, tricks or suggestions,
please e-mail me. I left pretty much everything open to its members
so we can upload samples or links we find about the subject. Thanks
for all the help people on this site have given me on this subject.
