No Don it isn't true - I use PR and WT and they need totally different
treatment. For proofing I use EAM - again profiled, so that what works on
EAM will then work on the other papers with their own profiles - more or
less!

Re: [Digital BW] Hahnemuhle Paper Profile

2003-01-06 by Peter Palmieri

Having read so many raves about Hahnemuhle Paper Rag, I bought the paper and have printed several B&W's using it. I have an Epson 2200, WinXP and am using PS7. I have not used a profile for it. Rather I have used the settings suggested suggested by Professor Schofield (thank you Professor!) at www.luminous-landscape.com . Those settings produce very satisfactory prints using Matte Black ink. The only change from his suggestions is the media selection, which is set to Watercolor Paper Radiant White.

The prints are very satisfactory, as I have said, but always wondering whether there are "tweaks" that could improve on a good thing.

I did carefully produce a color profile, with expert assistance, for the subject paper using Profile Prism. However, Epson's Enhanced Matte paper, using Epson's canned profile, produced a better looking print. All other parameters remained unchanged so that a reasonable comparison could be made.

Settings, tweaks, suggestions, profiles etc. for printing B&W's on HPR will be most appreciated.

Thanks for any help!

Peter

I use Photo Rag 308, Albrect Durer, and Torchon on an Epson 1280 with
Gen-4 ink. My profile target was printed on Photo Rag 308 and read
with the DTPxrite
autospectophotmeter with ProfilerPro (or was it Profilemaker Pro?
Either way, it was not the Opti/Photo-Cal one.)

With very slight adjustment layers, and I do mean slight, that
profile works on all 3 papers. In fact, you would be hard pressed to
tell the difference even if I didn't use
adjustment layers.

They seem to print the same with Paul's Curves and VM inks...

Looks like our experiences vary! The piezo profiles seem to give different
results depending on paper/profile. When I was working on my RGB workflow
the WR needed a more extreme curve than PR to sort out shadow detail and
both papers gave a different reading on the 50% greypatch. But again -
thisonly applies to my cis and my printer and the FS inks I was using. Loads
of variables..
