IP5 upgrade for 2880 matte papers

Since I'm still working with getting rid of mottling on Eclipse paper with IP5 profiling, they e-mailed me the brand new driver which now is supposed to handle 2880dpi for matte papers, although I don't think any profiles exist yet. Apparently the color printing is also improved somewhat. The confusing catch is that with the new driver, dated 12/24/02, if you want to print COLOR using the photoblack cart (PK as opposed to mk) at 1440dpi , not 2880, you have to download new profiles under the Epson 2200-->PK folder. And I saw only three papers profiled there. These new profiles have a suffix "b" on them, thus the profile might be called for example 2200b_luster....you get the idea. Or maybe not. It is confusing. Printing color at 2880 or greyscale at 1440 (since no profiles for grey yet exist at 2880) are not affected. The 95%ink reduction curve for Eclipse Satine BW paper which now exists cures 90% or more of the mottling. I may ask them to do a 90%k profile after another day or two of test strip drying. Otherwise I can't tell hardly any difference between the 100% ink and 95%ink reduction curves- side by side the output has been adjusted beautifully. The gradient change is nice and even, with the exception of some tone compresion around darker than maybe 94% or so. Jim H.
