1270 printing

I scan slides and negs with nikon ls2000 at 2700 ppi. I've been using a 1270 purchased new 3 years ago for printing on epson papers with epson carts. Usually print 720 or 1440 ppi corresponding dpi with high speed turned off, on sizes from 4x6 to 12x18. With a loupe I see fine rows of white dots, sometimes single rows, sometimes doubles or triples, running horizontally on all my prints. Is this a defective printer? This does not impact the look of the print, but I need to know if I should get another printer, perhaps 1280, even though I love my 1270. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
