Re: Lyson SG inks recommendation
2003-01-22 by Keith Cooper
Hello I've compared a few prints with differing inks and find that the SG inks exhibit -relatively- little variation in tone with differing light conditions. It is most definitely there, but it is (in the prints I had a look at this afternoon) an -even- change in perceived hue. This compares well with some wider gamut inks, where the change in tone varies with lightness, giving some very noticeable effects (did I hear someone mention older Epson pigments :-)) Although I produced some very successful prints with Lyson Quad Black, I have some absolute horrors sitting around that change colours so widely, that I've kept them as examples of print problems. When I'm doing a print for a particular location and have access to the relevant wall, I have several test prints available. Fortunately most clients would not notice any slight colour shifts and it is an issue I'll usually not raise unless asked. It took quite a while to truly accept that someone will really like an image I've produced, that I personally would not have hanging in my own room (I've got favourites of my own). If someone gets pleasure from having one of my prints on their wall, I'm not going to possibly spoil it by pointing out what might be thought of by some as nit-picking problems. I appreciate that to some, the changes in hue are a very serious problem. It's all a matter of personal preference - to me it matters not if the dmax of my paper/ink combination is 2.7 or 2.72, it's what the print looks like. That¹s not to say I can't go into techy mode and edit/create profiles, that's just a different hat to wear :-)) :-)) The more we share our experiences in a forum like this the better! bye for now Keith Cooper Northlight Images http://northlight-images.co.uk Photography - Digital Imaging - Apple Mac Consultancy Tel +44 (0)116 291 9092 Mobile +44 (0)780 162 9397
